Daniela was keeping Lito company in his office today, alternating between sending Hernando photos of everything about the school and leafing through his books because she couldn't believe he hadn't picked out a play for his class to perform yet, "Lito, it's October already, God."

"What about Romeo and Juliet?"

"Everyone does Romeo and Juliet," he pointed out.

"What about Titus Andronicus? No one does that one!" He just stared at her. "What?"

"Have you read Titus Andronicus?!"

April didn't have parents visiting, just a friend (Mal, who looked uncomfortable tagging along behind her since voluntarily visiting teachers on Saturdays wasn't something you did when you were punk, April).

"Hi, Mr. Rodriguez!" she said brightly. "I was just showing my friend around the school. This is Mal. I didn't know they let teachers bring friends for the weekend too!"

"Ah, yes, April, hello, and hello, Mal. This is my--" shit. "This is Daniela." That seemed safe enough. She was definitely Daniela.

"Hi Daniela! You have the cutest style," April said. "Those are the best shoes."

"Were you guys just talking about plays to perform?" Mal wanted to know. "You should do something totally complicated with a death scene. April's really good at death scenes."

"I'll take that under advisement," Lito promised. "Daniela's stumping for Titus Andronicus, but I don't know if the school's fake blood budget is up to the task."

"Isn't that the name of the guy from The Invincible Kimberly Schraft?" April asked.

Mal elbowed her. "No, it's Shakespeare." Then to Lito, "Just saying, you might get some calls from parents about the graphic content. At my school, we did meta for Grease and they had to take out like half the second act so the parents wouldn't freak."

Considering that Fandom High was not very much like other schools, Lito didn't see that being a problem, but more importantly, "We are probably not doing Titus Andronicus."

"He's no fun," Daniela complained.

April gave Daniela a sympathetic look. Not that she actually knew the play, but still.

"Do you have a favorite play, Mr. Rodriguez?" she asked. It wasn't sucking up if her only intention was just to make conversation, right? "Mine is Midsummer, but our class might be too big for that."

"I like anything that isn't meta for Our Town," Mal volunteered.

"I've always enjoyed Hamlet," Lito said. That was not exactly true. He enjoyed watching Hernando talk about Hamlet. Lito had always preferred the comedies, himself. "And I don't think Our Town is in the cards, no."

"Is this where I speak with a teacher?" Gandalf was having a great time with this whole situation. And had still yet to find Thorin.

"Yes, hello, that would be me," Lito confirmed, shooting a look at Daniela, who was now taking a selfie with his bookcase. "She's visiting. Are you...one of my students' father?" Not that he judged those who chose to have children later in life, of course.

The noise Gandalf made at that could safely be classified as a terrified cough. "No. No, no. Not at all, young man. Merely a friend of the family."

He totally knew some of Thorin's ancestors. So. That counted.

Daniela perked right up at that. "You have a prince in your class?"

No, Daniela. No.

"They're high schoolers, Daniela," Lito reminded her, to avoid admitting that this was also news to him. That was what he got for having his students lie their faces off for their introductions.

"Only second in line to the throne," Gandalf replied dismissively. Thorin would rule in many years from now.

"Lito, I'm upgrading," Daniela announced.

"What--no, he's my student. He's like fifteen!" Lito protested. Something like that, anyway.

"I'm upgrading in three years, then," Daniela decided. 'Princess Daniela' had a nice ring to it, didn't it?

"I am...so sorry about her," Lito told Gandalf.

"No need," Gandalf replied, still in good humor. "Though three years would be too short. I believe they wait until they are nearly a century old before such things."
